As Iowa’s population ages, more and more of us find
ourselves in need of hospice care for our loved ones—in
a comfortable, nurturing setting.
Hospice of Central Iowa serves more than 1,400 individuals and their families
every year throughout 34 counties in central, south-central and southeast Iowa.
We reach out to rural Iowa communities through offices in Knoxville, Perry,
Centerville, Boone, Mount Pleasant and Mount Ayr. The Des Moines
metropolitan area is served by our locations in Des Moines and West Des Moines.
Our end-of-life services ensure patients live in an environment that
enhances their comfort and best suits their needs. Often, that setting is
found in patients’ homes. Sometimes, though, patients need more expertise
and round-the-clock care than can be provided at home.
That’s why Hospice of Central Iowa created the Kavanagh Houses—our
residential facilities dedicated to hospice care.
Unfortunately, on any given day, many patients in need of residential care
may be turned away solely because rooms are already full at our two existing
Kavanagh Houses.
In order to expand our capacity to serve patients and families, we are preparing
for the next stage of service to the community—a third Kavanagh House
to be located in east Des Moines at 3000 Easton Boulevard. The new facility
will offer 24 additional rooms and permit us to serve approximately 500
more families every year. Creating this facility and ensuring its ability to meet
the needs of our community will require an investment of $6 million, of
which more than half has already been raised. |
